Director, Technology is a core part of Technology leadership for the company and will work closely with CXO leadership building a global tech driven disrupter and is a perfect blend of business/product, engineering and leadership. In this role, you will be responsible for managing overall technology for one or more key business function like consumer experience, payments, customer care, supply chain etc. owning overall engineering and product strategy and execution for the function. You will be responsible for setting the vision for the space, drive long-term roadmap and short-term priorities, coming up with innovative ideas and driving product definition, own overall technology architecture, development and 24x7 systems creating meaningful business impact in a fast-paced environment. This role is a senior leadership role owning multiple sub-teams within your broader functional charter and will typically manage other engineering leaders and product manager.


Key Responsiblities:

  • Overall ownership of technology (engineering and product) for your business functions to ensure technology is a core driver of your business, not merely an enabler, by delivering meaningful top line, bottom line and CX impact thorugh techology
  • Setup vision for the product/space, define and own long-term roadmap and short-term priorities balancing both long-term and short-term needs
  • Work with both internal and external customers/stakeholders to understand their explicit and implicit needs and devise innovative solutions to solve those
  • Lead technology choices/architecture/design decisions, own end-to-end development and 24x7 production systems to build robust, scalable and extensible technology at par with best technology companies in the world
  • Work closely with the design team to ensure user-experience and interfaces are top notch
  • Build a highly decentralised organisation capable of delivery high quality products/software at a rapid pace in an ambiguous and ever changing environment; set aggressively goals and ensure those are delivered at all times
  • Build state of the art deployment and infrastructure management practices to ensure highly secure and available infrastrucutre (>99.9% availability) while keeping costs optimal
  • Build a top notch tecnhnology team by hiring the highly talented team and setting them for success
  • Setup clear career path for the team creating a high performance organisation where high performers are disporportionately rewarded and underperformance is swftly managed; Do succession planning for all key positions; mentor and develop both leaders and individual contributors
  • Constantly identify opportunites for improvements in business, product, technology and processes and devise practical solutions to improve those; be a champion for engineering and operational excellence by establishing and owning metrics for these


Key Skills:

  • 12+ years of Sr. Technology leadership experience with proven track record of delivering high impact technology led business products/solutons in a complex and fast-paced environment
  • 3+ years expereince leading multiple teams including experience leading other engineering and product leaders
  • Problem solving – ability to break down a broad ambiguous problem into logical structure and drive to solutions utilising strong business and technical judgment to accelerate the time to market of releases, while incrementally moving our technology towards the long-term vision
  • Strong architectural skills and experience with high volume distributed transactional systems in 24x7 environment; expertise in object oriented design, SOA, latest technologies like SpringBoot, Kafka, Redis, MongoDB etc., CI/CD and devops practices
  • Experience in defining and executing software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle
  • Capable of handling multiple simultaneous projects and meet deadlines, have an ability to work in a group setting as well as in an independent position with a detail-oriented attitude, be highly analytical by nature, be highly organized being able to effectively prioritize tasks, have exceptionally good problem solving skills, have an ability to work in a highly collaborative and fast-evolving environment, be highly adaptive and welcoming to change and passionate to learn new technologies
  • Proven track record of attracting and retaining the top talent and building a high-performance organisation
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions, recommendations and drive actions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated experience engaging and influencing peers and executives.
  • Experience in machine learning design practices and implementation is a bonus
  • Education: Bachelor’s/Master’s degree; can be waived if you have moved mountains in past like co-founding a Unicorn
